The historic Floyd County Fair has provided countless memories for both the young and old of Floyd County. The first fair in Floyd County took place on October 5th & 6th, 1859 in Charles City. The fair was held at many locations around the county including the area now called Lion's Field in Charles City. It also consolidated with the Big Four Fair in Nashua for a time in the 1900's. On December 4th, 1954, the present fairgrounds was purchased for $20,000. In 1955, the livestock buildings were erected and have been home to the 4-H and FFA livestock projects for 4 days each year. These facilities not only housed the livestock, they also served as an outstanding learning experience for thousands of Floyd County youth throughout the years.
The Floyd County Fair Society has embarked on an ambitious mission to raise enough cash to finish paying for the new beef, dairy, and swine barn this year. Be sure to drop off a check at the Fair Office during the Fair. Click here for more information. |
